Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has said that Egypt and the European Union are sharing a common goal in curbing terrorism and achieving economic development.
“We need to benefit from the EU expertise in these domains,” Shoukri said at the ANSA-Al Ahram conference on the European-Arab Strategic Partnership that began on Thursday in Cairo.
The conference aims at stepping up dialogue and trade cooperation between Europe and the Arab world, with special focus on Italy and Egypt.
Rome and Cairo should take advantage of this historical moment and invest in the future of these two countries, ANSA managing director Giuseppe Cerbone said in his opening remarks, noting that Italy and Egypt had long enjoyed strong relations.
Cultural and economic relations and the issue of immigration should be at the center of bilateral cooperation, he added.
