France’s AFD picks Ismailia to develop first joint wholesale market in Egypt
The French Development Agency (AFD) has chosen the Suez Canal city of Ismailia to finance the development of the first wholesale market under agreements and contracts signed with Egypt last year, an AFD official said on Tuesday.
The second wholesale market will be in Sharqia Governorate, north of Cairo, said the official, who spoke to Amwal Al Ghad on condition of anonymity because the matter is not public yet.
Last April, the AFD started the feasibility studies for running the project in cooperation with the Ministry of Supply, the official added.
The AFD is studying the development of 14 wholesale wheat markets to strengthen Egypt food security. These markets are designated to sell food commodities to merchants, the official said.
French firm Rungis Market will contribute to providing infrastructure, human resources, and control systems of these markets.
