France’s August consumer confidence hit highest since Feb ’22
Consumer confidence in France’s economic situation showed a slight recovery in August 2024, with the indicator rising by one point to 92, marking its highest level since the onset of the Ukraine war in February 2022. However, it remains below the long-term average of 100.
Consumers’ views on their personal financial situation remained virtually stable, with mixed sentiments about past and future finances.
The survey, released by French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), also showed that households were less negative about future and past standard of living.
Despite a slight increase, confidence in making major purchases and opinions on the standard of living also remain subdued compared to long-term averages.
Notably, the belief that it is a good time to saw a rebound, with the related balance gaining two points, though concerns about current savings ability slightly worsened.
