French President Macron to start first official visit to Egypt Sunday
French President Emmanuel Macron will make his first official visit to Egypt since he assumed office in 2017 on Sunday, state-run MENA agency reported.
The visit comes as the two countries enjoy unprecedented development in bilateral relations, according to MENA.
The visit also coincides with the beginning of “France-Egypt 2019”, a year-long designation that was launched by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Macron on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Suez Canal earlier this year.
Sisi visited Paris in October 2017 where he met with Macron and discussed joint efforts to combat terrorism, the Middle East peace process, the situation in Libya, and issues related to bilateral cooperation.
The two countries have strengthened economic and military ties under President El-Sisi since he assumed office in 2014.
