French Prime Minister Francois Fillon will present the center-right government’s resignation on Thursday, a government official said Wednesday.
“The Prime Minister will present to the President of the Republic the resignation of his government tomorrow. The ministers will handle daily businesses until the transfer of power,” said Budget Minister and government spokeswoman Valerie Pecresse.
The resignation will take effect when Socialist Francois Hollande is inaugurated on May 15, Pecresse said after the last cabinet meeting of Sarkozy’s government, during which the incumbent wished his successor good luck.
President-elect Hollande and his Socialist Party have convened a meeting Wednesday morning to discuss issues concerning the new government and the forthcoming legislative campaign. He will officially take power and pick a socialist prime minister on May 15, according to Xinhua.
