Fuel prices in Egypt to remain unchanged for next 6 months – ministry

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum confirmed on Friday that it will not review fuel prices for the next six months, as part of continued efforts to alleviate the financial burden of fuel subsidies while navigating economic challenges.

The government has been gradually phasing out subsidies as part of its agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under a $8 billion support package. However, the Ministry of Petroleum said it would not adjust fuel prices until October 2025.

“The previous price adjustments were made on October 18, 2024 (six months ago) to alleviate the financial burden on citizens. No price changes will be considered for the next six months,” the Ministry stated in a release.

This decision aligns with efforts to stabilise the economy and ease pressure on citizens. The government has continued to direct the bulk of subsidies to essential fuels, including diesel, butane (LPG), and gasoline, with a focus on 80/92-octane gasoline to ensure affordability for the public.
