German inflation ticked up to 2.4 per cent in April, a slight increase from the 2.3 per cent year-on-year rise recorded in March, which was the lowest rate in nearly three years, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing data from the federal statistics office.
Energy and food prices, in particular, have had a moderating effect on the overall inflation rate since the beginning of the year, explained Ruth Brand, president of the federal statistics office.
Brand raised a concern about core inflation, which has been consistently higher than overall inflation since January 2024. In April, core inflation was at 3.0 per cent, showing ongoing price pressures in the German economy.
