Germany’s industrial production rose by 2.9 per cent in August 2024 compared to the previous month, according to provisional data released on Tuesday.
However, a three-month comparison showed a decline of 1.3 per cent for the period from June to August 2024, highlighting underlying challenges in the sector.
The automotive industry played a significant role in this fluctuation, with production of motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers surging 19.3 per cent in August after an 8.2 per cent decline in July.
Excluding energy and construction, industrial production increased by 3.4 per cent from July, with capital goods rising 6.9 per cent, while consumer goods production remained flat.
On an annual basis, the industrial production in August 2024 was 2.7 per cent lower than in August 2023. Production in energy-intensive industries edged up 0.1 per cent from July and rose 2.2 per cent compared to August 2023, indicating a slight recovery in these sectors.
