The global fully electric and plug-in hybrid car sales soared by 31 per cent in 2023, down from 60 per cent growth in 2022, Reuters reported on Thursday.
According to market research firm Rho Motion, the sales hit a monthly record in December of 1.5 million units sold.
Fully electric or battery electric vehicles (BEVs) made up around 9.5 million of the 13.6 million EVs sold in 2023.
BEV sales went up by 50 per cent in the U.S. and Canada with a growth of 27 per cent in Europe and 15 per cent in China.
Rho Motion data manager Charles Lester told Reuters that sales in Europe in 2024 might drop due to Germany’s decision to drop EV subsidies last year.
