Govt. to implement rail line linking Egypt, Sudan
The Egyptian government is planning to establish a rail line linking Sidi Gaber district in Alexandria, the country’s second largest city, to the Sudanese capital Khartoum, said Egyptian Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat on Wednesday.
An Egyptian-Sudanese committee was formed to supervise the construction works of the rail lines that can also be used to transport goods, Arafat added in a phone conversation with the Al Hayat Al Youm broadcasted on Al-Hayat TV channel.
For his part, assistant transport minister Amr Shaath announced that the first phase of the project started four months ago, expressing concern over the possibility of providing its requisite funding.
