Grand Egyptian Museum’s opening preparations in ‘full swing’ – PM

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Wednesday that preparations for the Grand Egyptian Museum’s official opening are in full swing, as authorities rush to complete final works around the long-awaited cultural landmark before its 1 November inauguration.

Chairing the weekly Cabinet meeting at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Madbouly said all ministries and state agencies are working intensively to organise the high-profile ceremony, which will mark the long-awaited launch of what is expected to be the world’s largest archaeological museum.

He said he is personally following up on development work around the museum and roads leading to it to ensure readiness ahead of the event.

Madbouly added that Egypt’s rich historical and cultural legacy continues to attract strong global interest, noting that thousands of visitors gathered at Abu Simbel Temple at sunrise on Wednesday to witness the biannual solar alignment on the statue of King Ramses II — a phenomenon highlighting the country’s ancient engineering prowess.

The prime minister said the government aims to maximise the economic and tourism benefits of such heritage sites as part of efforts to strengthen Egypt’s position as a leading global cultural destination.
