H. Kong’s trade volume rises in Sept. ’24

Hong Kong’s trade statistics for September 2024 show a 4.7 per cent increase in exports and a 1.4 per cent increase in imports compared to the previous year, the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) reported on Monday.

In September 2024, the value of total exports of goods rose by 4.7 per cent compared to the same period last year, reaching $398.1 billion. This follows a year-on-year increase of 6.4 per cent in August 2024.

Total exports to Asia in September 2024 increased by 6.9 per cent compared to the same month a year earlier. Significant growth was seen in exports to Vietnam (+33.0 per cent), Thailand (+19.8 per cent), and mainland China (+12.3 per cent).

However, exports to India (-22.9 per cent), Korea (-22.5 per cent), and Taiwan (-18.8 per cent) declined. Outside of Asia, exports to Switzerland (-21.9 per cent) and the US (-2.3 per cent) decreased, while exports to the Netherlands rose 16.4 per cent.
