Egypt were drawn with France and Sweden in a tough group of next year’s World’s Handball Championship in Doha, Qatar.
The group also includes Algeria, Czech Republic and the United Arab Emirates after the draw was held in Doha on Sunday.
Egypt will be desperate to improve on their poor outcomes in the last decade, having failed to break into the top 10 since their remarkable fourth-place finish in 2001 – their best ever position.
Four-time world champions France famously beat Egypt at the 2001 semis before going on to win the tournament on home soil.
Heavyweights Sweden also won the tournament four times in 1954, 1958, 1990 and 1999.
Next year’s World Championship will take place from 15 January to 1 February in Qatar.
