The Egyptian Prime Minister Hesham Kandil announced yesterday that the Cabinet accepted the resignation of the chairman of the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), Tarek Amer. Amer has resigned without explaining the reason behind this move.
Amer has held the post since 2008, and was responsible for major administrative and financial restructuring of the bank during his 5-year post, the cabinet said in a statement.
Amer held many posts in local and international banks inside and outside Egypt. Before joining NBE, he was named deputy chairman of Banque Misr in March 2003 and was nominated as deputy governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) in December 2003.
Kandil has commended the efforts of Tarek Amer in serving the country and boosting the national economy.
