Egypt and Hong Kong are moving to deepen trade and investment ties as the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) prepares to open a representative office in Cairo and send a business delegation from the apparel and textiles sector in January 2026.
Cairo Chamber of Commerce Chairman Ayman Ashry met on Wednesday with HKTDC Regional Director for Middle East and Africa, Daniel Lam and Deputy Regional Director Nassef Mahfouz to discuss opportunities in Egypt’s market. Ashry pointed to strong government backing for foreign investors, including support from Deputy Prime Minister and Industry and Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir, as a key driver for Chinese and Hong Kong firms considering entry.
Lam said HKTDC, which runs 51 global offices and organises around 40 international trade fairs each year, is prioritising Egypt as a gateway to regional markets. The planned delegation of about 30 companies aims to boost cooperation in textiles and apparel, with prospects to expand into other sectors such as jewellery, watches, and consumer goods.
