Huawei Technologies is reportedly close to launch a new artificial intelligence (AI) chip, the Ascend 910C, a move aimed to challenge Nvidia’s dominance in the Chinese market, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing sources.
This follows the ongoing US sanctions that restrict Nvidia from selling its advanced chips to China.
The report states that Chinese internet and telecom giants, including ByteDance, Baidu, and China Mobile, have been testing the Ascend 910C in recent weeks.
Huawei is positioning the 910C as a competitor to Nvidia’s powerful H100 chip, which remains unavailable to Chinese customers due to US national security concerns.
The Wall Street Journal report suggests Huawei plans to begin shipping the 910C as early as October. Initial negotiations indicate potential orders exceeding 70,000 chips, with a total value estimated around $2 billion.
