IFC provides €140m to support Bulgaria’s climate projects

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is providing €140 million in long-term financing to Eurobank Bulgaria (Postbank) to promote sustainable economic growth and gender inclusion.

Of the total amount, €95 million comes from IFC’s own account, while €45 million is mobilised through SMBC Bank EU AG.

Half of the funds will focus on climate-related projects to help Bulgaria, the EU’s most carbon-intensive economy, meet its sustainability goals.

The other half will support women-owned small and medium enterprises (WSMEs), marking Postbank’s first gender-focused initiative. The investment includes advisory support from the IFC on gender and climate finance.

This initiative aligns with the World Bank Group’s priorities for Bulgaria, emphasising climate action and gender equality as keys to sustainable development.
