IMF urges Poland to implement reforms for future growth stability
Poland’s remarkable economic transformation over the past 30 years needs further reforms to sustain growth, according to International Monetary Fund (IMF) officials.
In an interview with Reuters, Geoff Gottlieb, IMF senior regional representative for Central, Eastern, and South-Eastern Europe, praised Poland’s fiscal credibility, low public debt, and strong growth track record. However, he urged more front-loaded fiscal consolidation as inflation remains high.
The IMF forecasts Poland’s economy to grow 3.5 per cent in 2025, with challenges ahead including ageing demographics, military spending, and climate investments. The IMF also recommended reforms, such as raising taxes and aligning the retirement age to maintain fiscal sustainability.
