IMF’s deputy MD visits Egypt to discuss economic reform

The International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s Deputy Managing Director, Antoinette Sayeh is visiting Egypt for the first time, IMF senior resident representative in Egypt, Said Bakhache, said on Wednesday.

Sayeh has met with Egyptian officials and stakeholders, including Mohamed Maait, the Minister of Finance, Hassan Abdalla, the Central Bank of Egypt’s Governor, and Moustafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister.

The main objective of Sayeh’s visit is to discuss the IMF’s recently finished paper titled Managing Fiscal Risks in the Middle East and North Africa, which focuses on fiscal risks in the region.

“If the programme is fully implemented, the needs of all the Egyptian people will be met, and Egypt will be in a better position. While there may be some people who are not enthusiastic, the best way to deal with them is to implement the programme so that they can feel its positive effects,” Sayeh stated.

Sayeh further added, “the government has taken significant steps towards achieving a level playing field between the public and private sectors, which has been approved by the state.”
