The Minister of Transportation Mohamed Rashad El-Meteny emphasized the importance of increasing the investments of marine transport in order to improve and develop the performance of the marine transportation industry.
El-Meteny has met with Mohamed Abdel Kader Gadallah, the Chairman of Red Sea Ports Authority; Naguib Sharaf, the Chairman of Port Said Ports Authority; Sayed Soliman, the Chairman of Damietta Port Authority; Adel Yassin, the Chairman of Alexandria Port Authority; Ibrahim Fleifel, the Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Maritime Safety; and Hassan el-Hermil, the Chairman of the Egyptian Al-Qahera Company for Ferries, in order to know the latest developments in the Egyptian ports and the volume of the transported foreign trade.
Egypt has a strategic geographical position as it has two coasts, one on the Mediterranean and the other on the Red Sea, making it a competent competitor in marine transport sector, El-Meteny stated.
The Minister of Transportation also discussed the obstacles facing some ports and emphasized the importance of implementing the latest technological systems as well as the security methods.
The chairmen of ports talked about the operational position of each port and the volume of transported goods as well as the development phases they have gone through so far.
