India, Egypt private sectors have huge scope for collaboration: Ambassador Reddy
India and Egypt’s private sectors have vast untapped potential for cooperation, Indian Ambassador to Cairo Suresh K. Reddy said on Sunday, calling for stronger partnerships in urban development, infrastructure and technology.
Speaking at a panel session during the Builders of Egypt Forum, Reddy said he was impressed by Egypt’s urban development efforts and saw clear opportunities for Indian companies to collaborate on major projects. There is a lot of room for cooperation between India’s private sector and Egypt’s private sector, Reddy said. India should explore how to partner in these ambitious developments.
Reddy highlighted the shared challenges facing both countries, including rapid population growth and urban expansion. He noted that Egypt’s population is projected to double to around 225 million, creating pressure on housing, infrastructure and services — similar to what India faces in major cities like Mumbai and Chennai. Managing urban growth, particularly along vulnerable coastal areas, is a common challenge, he said.
The ambassador outlined India’s approach, citing initiatives such as integrated command and control centers for urban management, the use of smart technology and materials to improve efficiency, and coastal resilience projects supported by multi-million-dollar investments.
Reddy stressed the importance of mobilising financing for green transition efforts.
