India stresses on non-compliant electronics import rules
India has reconfirmed restrictions on the import of unregistered or non-compliant electronics, as per a government order issued on Monday, reported by Reuters on Tuesday. This is a clarification of existing policy, not a new regulation.
A government official familiar with the matter explained on Tuesday, that this notification doesn’t change anything. The import policy for these electronics categories was already restricted. It’s just a status quo.
The official, who declined to be identified due to authorisation restrictions, further clarified that the import restrictions have been in place since 2021. The recent notification simply serves as an update.
