India urged to impose steel tariffs

India should impose tariffs on steel imports to support the domestic industry, said Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) Chairman Amarendu Prakash on Wednesday.

Finished steel imports from China reached a seven-year high in the first five months of fiscal 2025, as per a government data.

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India’s CEO Dilip Oommen suggested on Tuesday doubling the customs duty on steel to prevent dumping and predatory pricing.
