InstaPay resumes service for most banks after Ramses fire
The InstaPay money transfer app has returned to normal operations on Tuesday after a temporary disruption caused by an internet outage following a fire at the Ramses Exchange in downtown Cairo on Monday evening. The app, which allows users to transfer funds instantly between different bank accounts and pay bills, is now functioning fully.
In response to the service interruptions, the National Bank of Egypt issued an apology to its customers, explaining that some of its digital services were affected by the fire. The bank reassured clients that it was working with relevant authorities to restore full service as quickly as possible and expressed gratitude for their understanding.
Similarly, Banque Misr also apologised to its customers for disruptions to certain banking services, particularly online banking and financial transactions, which were impacted by the fire at Ramses Central and the resulting communications breakdown.
The fire, which occurred shortly before 6:00 PM on Monday, led to the temporary suspension of some electronic banking services, including card payments and money transfers. Emergency services responded quickly, containing the fire and rescuing employees trapped in the building.
Mohamed El-Etreby, chairman of the Egyptian Banks Federation and the National Bank of Egypt, confirmed that all banks in Egypt would resume normal operations on Tuesday without lasting effects from the fire.
