The pro-Morsi National Alliance to Support Legitmacy is calling for a million-man march dubbed “Together against Coup and Zionism” on
Tuesday.
The group however didn’t specify the march’s starting point or route.
The call for an ant-Zionism rally comes following unconfirmed reports of a military collaboration between the Egyptian and Israeli forces in the restive Sinai peninsula.
On Friday, a loud explosion took place in North Sinai which was believed to be an assault against suspected Islamic militants who planned to carry attacks against vital spots in Sinai or Israel. The attack left at least 5 militants killed.
Conflicting media reports followed the attack. Some outlets claimed the attack was launched by the Israeli forces in coordination with Egyptian authorities. This claim was vehemently denied by the Egyptian armed forces which requested media to verify its information before publishing, especially on issues of national security.
The Israeli army spokeswoman declined to comment on the attack. Meanwhile, the Israeli Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon asserted that “Israel respects the sovereignty of Egypt.”
The National Alliance to support legitimacy issued a statement denouncing the alleged Egyptian-Israeli collaboration, describing it as a “traitorous operation.”
“The Alliance stresses that this shameful incident constitutes a serious development that threatens Egyptian national security,” read the statement issued on Saturday.
Supporters of Morsi — the Muslim Brotherhood and its Islamist allies — have been staging two sit-ins, at Rabaa Al-Adawiya in the Nasr City district of Cairo and Al-Nahda Square in Giza, as well as daily rallies demanding Morsi’s reinstatement since his popularly-backed army ouster 3 July.
