Istanbul hosts AECSD & AMEDA Summit 2024

The Association of Eurasian Central Securities Depositories (AECSD) and the Africa and Middle East Depositories Association (AMEDA) will hold their joint Summit in Istanbul, Turkey on October 2-4.

The Summit – titled Building the Future of the Capital Markets in Eurasia, Africa, and the Middle East: The Role of CSDs – will bring together over 40 central securities depositories from the region.

This year’s summit edition, hosted by Merkezi Kayit Kurulusu A.S. (MKK), the Central Securities Depository (CDS) of the Turkish capital markets, aims to promote collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing among key players in the capital markets. It will feature discussions on best practices, the evolving landscape of CSDs, and opportunities for cooperation between AECSD and AMEDA.

The AECSD & AMEDA Istanbul Summit 2024 will feature more than 32 speakers representing 15 countries, and will host sustainable development agencies from Eurasia, Africa, and the Middle East, along with influential leaders and officials operating in the central depository field.

Abdulla Abdin, President of AMEDA, highlighted the importance of this year’s Summit due to the expected active participation of securities depositories from Eurasia, Africa, and the Middle East. He emphasized that such participation would strengthen partnerships, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing among depositories, leading to positive outcomes and substantial development in financial markets. Abdin underscored the benefits of participating in such initiatives to foster collaboration, support, and development across various financial sectors.

Riham Gamal Khedr, AMEDA Secretary General, echoed Abdin’s sentiments, emphasizing the summit’s potential to promote cooperation, share best practices, and support the growth of markets in the region. She noted that the summit would provide a valuable platform for participating markets to exchange experiences and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Founded in 2005, AMEDA is a non-profit organisation that supports mutual cooperation among its members, which include central securities depositories and clearing houses in Africa and the Middle East. With over 40 members from 30 countries, AMEDA plays a crucial role in promoting the development of capital markets in the region.
