Italy’s inflation 0.1% MoM up in Dec. ’24

Italy’s inflation remained stable in December 2024, with the consumer price index (CPI) rising by 0.1 per cent month-on-month and 1.3 per cent year-on-year, matching the November rate, according to the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat) on Thursday. For the year, the average inflation rate was 1.0 per cent, significantly lower than 5.7 per cent in 2023.

Core inflation, excluding energy and unprocessed food, was 2.0 per cent, down from 5.1 per cent in 2023.

The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) increased in December by 0.1 per cent month-on-month and 1.4 per cent year-on-year.

The average annual change for 2024 was 1.1 per cent, a decrease from 5.9 per cent in 2023. Inflation had a larger impact on higher-income households, with a 1.6 per cent rise compared to just 0.1 per cent for lower-income households.
