Jordan and Egypt sign agreement for energy supply boost: officials

Jordan and Egypt have signed an agreement to boost electricity cooperation and increase volume of voltage as consumption in the kingdom increased, officials said today.

An agreement was signed between concerned parties from both countries during recent meetings in Egypt, according to Petra news agency, The two sides also agreed to maintaining oil and gas pipelines and networks in the Kingdom, and to prepare economic feasibility studies on natural gas supplies for household, trade and industrial use.

These agreements were signed by Jordan Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Saleh Kharabsheh to Egypt, and Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla and the Minister of Electricity and Energy Mohamed Shaker.

Jordan heavily depends on electricity from Egypt and was one of the main consumers of Egyptian gas through a pipeline that connected the two countries. But continued attacks on the pipeline by unknown people in Sinai lead to continued disruption of supplies.
