Jordan has launched on Saturday 200 MW Baynouna Solar Park, the biggest solar plant in the Kingdom with the Jordanian National Electric Power Company, Emirati Renewable Energy Company Masdar, and Finnish Investment Management Group Taaleri.
The plant is planned to provide 110,000 Jordanian homes with their yearly electricity needs, as it will be an addition to the increase of the Jordanian renewable energy project portfolio.
The new Jordanian plan will be reducing the Kingdom’s carbon emissions by 360,000 ton yearly, or neutralising emissions of about 80,000 cars.
Jordan is one of the countries whose energy needs are highly dependent on exports, which puts it at risk especially with global market volatility and supply shortages.
Jordan’s oil and petroleum products imports reached $4.93 billion in 2022, while previously being $3.35 billion in 2021, intra-trade data issued by Jordan’s Department of Statistics showed.
