Jordan is on track to complete the second phase of its electrical connection with Iraq by the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, as detailed in the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ 2023 Annual Report.
This phase, which focuses on supplying electricity to Iraq’s Al-Qa’im region, will deliver between 150 and 200 megawatts (MW) at 400 kV.
The report highlights ongoing work on the 400 kV transmission line and the construction of substations in both Iraq and Jordan. The first phase, which became operational in early 2024, supplied 40 MW to Iraq’s Al-Rutbah region.
Jordan’s regional energy efforts also include advancing connections with Saudi Arabia, Palestine, and Lebanon. The Jordan-Saudi electrical connection project has secured a $71.6 million loan, and technical studies for further expanding connections with Palestine and Lebanon are underway. Jordan’s grid has been linked with Egypt’s since 1999, and plans to increase this connection’s capacity are progressing.
