King Charles III crowned in vast historical ceremony
King Charles the third and Queen Camilla have been crowned on Saturday at the biggest British ceremonial event in seven decades.
The ceremony included 100 world leaders and millions of television audience, as well as the Archbishop of Canterbury, the spiritual leader of the Anglican Church.
During the ceremony, the spiritual leader of the Anglican Church and the Archbishop of Canterbury place the 360-year-old St. Edward’s Crown on the King’s head while he sat on the 14th century throne in Westminster Abbey.
Charles’s second wife Camilla was crowned queen, in elements dating back to the time of King William the Conqueror in 1066.
The king and the queen then departed Westminster Abbey in the Gold State Coach which has been commissioned in 1760 by Francis Rawdon-Hastings, heading to Buckingham palace.
A huge military procession followed with gun salutes fired and thousands of soldiers roaring three cheers.
The King and Queen closed the ceremony by cheering the crowds from the balcony of the Buckingham Palace.
