Lafarge Egypt signs cooperation protocol to reinforce development in Kafr El-Sheikh
Lafarge Egypt, a member of Holcim Group, signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding with Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, a Nile Delta city in north of Cairo, a move aimed to support Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt’s vision 2030.
Lafarge Egypt is working “Hand in Hand”, with Kafr El-Sheikh governorate to implement various projects, starting with optimising the roads network.
Building on its industrial and research experience, the company paved several internal roads in Baltim.
Lafarge Egypt’s initiative reinforces citizens’ accessibility to utilities and connects the village to the main road.
“We value the pivotal role played by Lafarge Egypt member of Holcim Group utilising innovative materials to enhance several internal roads in Baltim.” Gamal Nour El-Din, Kafr El-Sheikh Governor, said.
Nour El-Din emphasised on the importance of the alliance between the state, the private sector and the civil society.
“Thriving with Egypt’s vision 2030, Lafarge Egypt member of Holcim Group is building for the planet and people. We are dedicated to promoting development in various fields through its CSR initiatives.” Solomon Baumgartner Aviles, chief executive of Lafarge Egypt, said.
The company is launching its initiative “to pave internal roads using cost effective and eco-friendly materials. We maximise the added value to the community, contributing to creating a decent life.” Aviles added.
Lafarge Egypt is cooperating with Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate in rehabilitating the city’s internal roads network. Building on its industrial and research experience, the company said it finances paving 5,000 square metres of internal roads in Baltim. This initiative comes in line with its commitment to developing the communities it operates in, and contributing to sustainable development nationwide.
Lafarge Egypt uses green materials for paving the roads. In Baltim, the first step was that soil samples were collected from the site and sent to the lab to identify its suitability of treatment, and manufacturing the optimum mixture of HRB.
The second step was that Lafarge Egypt implemented the needed-on site preliminary road leveling and grading for accurate depth and width of the designed road. HRB was distributed on the road, based on the characteristics of soil.
As for the final step, leveling and compaction was implemented to achieve road design requirements. The produced paving material is cost effective and eco-friendly enabling to comply with the rural nature and needs while swiftly paving the internal roads, building a better world for a better future.
