Liverpool’s Egyptian Salah defends himself after being criticised for lengthy goal drought

Liverpool’s Egyptian forward Mohmed Salah defended himself after being criticised for his lengthy goal drought, hinting that he is being unfairly treated by the media.

Salah helped his side earn a difficult 2-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday when Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris parried out his back post header but the ball struck the unfortunate Belgian central defender and rolled over the line in the 90th minute.

The 26-year-old has failed to score since finding the net against Bournemouth in a Premier League game on 9 February, extending his drought to eight matches in all competitions.

“There is some players who also have the same number of goals like me but they [the media] say they have the greatest season of their lives,” he said in English during an interview with Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

“There is three or four players that no one talks about them, they just say they have a good season, I’m the only one who have a bad season.”

Salah, top scorer of the Premier League last season with a record haul of 32 goals, has netted 17 goals in the elite competition so far this term, just two behind leading scorer Sergio Aguero.

“Aguero is just two goals over me and they say this is one of the best seasons for him. I don’t care too much I just want to play and win the Premier League, this is the most important for me.”
