Malaysia’s wholesale and retail trade sector continued its positive trajectory in October 2024, recording a 5.5 per cent year-on-year increase in sales value to RM150.1 billion, the Department of Statistics Malaysia reported on Wednesday.
This growth was driven by all sub-sectors, including retail trade (up 7.1 per cent), wholesale trade (up 4.8 per cent), and motor vehicles (up 2.7 per cent). On a month-on-month basis, the sales value increased by 1.3 per cent.
In terms of volume index, the sector registered a 5.1 per cent year-on-year growth to 159.9 points. Wholesale trade (up 6.1 per cent), retail trade (up 5.0 per cent), and motor vehicles (up 1.6 per cent) contributed to this increase.
