Maldivian government has announced plans to introduce PayPal, a widely used online payment system, to the country, as announced by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed.
The announcement was made during an interview with PSM, the country’s state media, on Saturday night.
Currently, PayPal users in the Maldives can send money but are unable to receive funds through the platform.
Minister Saeed stated that the government’s proposal was submitted to PayPal Holdings a few days ago and expressed optimism about reaching an agreement soon.
Last month, Saeed held discussions with PayPal representatives to address the challenges of launching PayPal services in the Maldives, aiming to facilitate seamless online money transfers for users in the country.
