US confectionery giant Mars has launched new production lines at its factory in Egypt’s 6th of October City under a $280 million expansion plan, making the facility one of the company’s five largest globally, Egypt’s Cabinet said Sunday.
The announcement came during an inauguration ceremony attended by Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Hassan El-Khatib and Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir, alongside Mars board member Frank Mars, the fourth-generation member of the founding family.
El-Khatib said the investment reflects growing confidence in Egypt’s economy and the government’s success in providing a stable, business-friendly environment despite global economic challenges. The project, implemented between 2023 and 2025, expands Mars’ production capacity and export potential, he added.
With the new lines, more than 90 per cent of the factory’s output will be exported to over 50 markets across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, positioning Egypt as a regional manufacturing and export hub, the statement added.
El-Khatib noted that the expansion aligns with Egypt’s economic vision to deepen local industry, raise value-added exports, and strengthen competitiveness of Egyptian-made products internationally. The government, he added, continues to support serious investors through streamlined procedures, targeted incentives, and investment-friendly reforms.
The minister said the project also highlights stronger US investment flows into Egypt this year, underlining the “robust and long-term” economic partnership between Cairo and Washington.
He also praised Mars for its social initiatives in Egypt, including training and employment programmes for young people.
“The success of this expansion sends a clear message that Egypt remains committed to supporting every serious investor contributing to industrial growth, exports, and job creation,” El-Khatib said.
