Mars swapped plastic wrapper for paper wrapper

Mars chocolate bars swapped their plastic wrappers for new environmentally friendly paper wrappers on Sunday. The new packaging will launch in the UK starting Monday.

Mars said that it is a challenge to find the right paper wrappers with “an adequate level of barrier properties to protect the chocolate”.

The company is promising customers that the recyclable wrapper won’t affect the freshness of the bars, but if buyers think so, they can get a refund or scan a QR code on the packaging to give their feedback.

The company’s move follows that of chocolate rival Nestlé, which has been using paper wrappers for Smarties since January 2021.

In December 2022, nine of the 11 Quality Street sweets moved to paper wrappers too.
