Meta Platforms announced on Tuesday that it is planning to launch Threads, a microblogging app, to be a Twitter rival.
The announcement came shortly after Twitter’s executive chairman, Elon Musk, announced a temporary cap on the number of posts users can read on the social media platform.
Thread is expected to be released on Thursday, and it will allow users to keep their Instagram username as well as the accounts they follow.
Musk’s most recent announcements to address data scraping have sparked a fierce backlash from Twitter users, with ad experts saying that these announcements would undermine the new CEO, Linda Yaccarino.
