Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Thursday that dialogue and cooperation with the United States are continuing after President Donald Trump introduced new tariffs that excluded Mexico.
At her daily press conference, Sheinbaum described Mexico’s exemption from the tariffs, announced Wednesday, as a positive development for the country.
Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard praised the preferential tariff treatment under the USMCA trade agreement, calling it a “great achievement.” He stressed that Mexico’s priority in the coming 40 days will be securing the best possible trade terms.
This announcement comes as Mexico works to protect key industries and ensure economic stability while navigating ongoing trade negotiations with its largest trading partner.
