The Egyptian mining sector’s contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP) does not exceed 0.4%, said head of the country’s mineral resources authority.
Omer Taima – Chairman of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) – said on Tuesday that the authority is seeking to boost the mining sector’s contribution to the national GDP to 5% in the coming phase.
Formed out of the Egyptian Geological Survey (EGS) which was established in 1896, the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) is the authority entrusted with the geological mapping of the country and to explore, discover and evaluate its mineral wealth. EMRA also offers technical advice to a variety of governmental departments, mining companies, land reclamation and housing projects.
