Egypt’s Misr Insurance Company has paid EgyptAir $18 million for the loss of the Airbus A320-232 which crashed the Mediterranean Sea last May, the insurer managing director Adel Moussa said Sunday.
EgyptAir Flight 804 (MS804/MSR804) was scheduled earlier on May 19 to fly from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Cairo International Airport, but crashed into the Mediterranean Sea, with all 66 people on board killed.
Misr Insurance, which captures the lion’s share of the Egyptian insurance market, provides insurance coverage for the EgyptAir’s fleet against any concrete damages.
Moussa further told Amwal Al Ghad that Misr Insurance would start pay compensations for each family of the flight MS804 victims as soon as the death certificates and proofs of inheritance are issued.
Earlier in June, EgyptAir agreed with Misr Insurance to temporarily compensate each family of the flight MS804 victims with $25,000.
There were 66 people on board: 56 passengers from twelve different countries were on board in addition to 7 aircrews, and 3 security personnel.
