Mobile retail stores unanimously resented the decision obliging shops to close at 9 p.m, explaining that the mobile market experiences a state of mobility starting from the sunset until 12 p.m, given that the sales percentage reaches up to 85%, compared to the morning.
They emphasized that the market is not up to withstand this decision at the current stage, especially after the volume of sales declined by about 50% and the daily number of sales reached to a maximum of EGP 25.000, due to the events that followed the revolution.
Eng. Osama Kamal, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has recently reported in press statements that a law will be issued to set a time for closing trade shops at 9 p.m and restaurants at 11 p.m, within the framework of the government’s attempts to rationalize consumption of electricity, stressing that this is a common practice in many countries all over the world.
According to a survey issued by the General Authority for Petroleum, 17% of energy subsidies in Egypt will be saved in case that unimportant trade shops and installations can be closed at 10 p.m, highlighting that energy subsidies represents 71% of the total subsidies of the state budget draft of 2011-2012.
