Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated scientists from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on the launch of the country’s first domestically produced space shuttle, according to a statement issued by the prime minister’s office on Monday.
Earlier in the day, India’s Re-Usable Launch Vehicle — Technology Demonstrator (RLV-TD) was launched from the island of Sriharikota, located in the southeastern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
“[The] launch of India’s first indigenous space shuttle RLV-TD is the result of the industrious efforts of our scientists. Congrats to them. The dynamism and dedication with which our scientists and ISRO have worked over the years is exceptional and very inspiring, ” the statement reads.
ISRO plans to test two more of such prototypes, which are instrumental to the development of a final version of the shuttle, expected to be launched in 2030.
