Nader Abbassi to conduct La bohème at USA’s Glimmerglass Festival

Egyptian Maestro Nader Abbassi will conduct Giacomo Puccini’s La bohème in the 2023 Glimmerglass festival in New York State, USA.

The festival will launch on the seventh of July with Abbassi’s performance, followed by Leonard Bernstein’s Candide conducted by Joseph Colaneri on the eighth of July.

La bohème is set to be performed 13 times throughout the festival, with the first being the opening on the seventh of July and the last being on the 19th of August.

Abbassi’ baton will lead the festival’s orchestra which features various renowned singers such as Joshua Blue (Rodolfo) who has performed the same role in the Opera Philadelphia production of la bohème in 2022.

Moreover, the cast will include soprano Teresa Perrotta, baritone Darren Drone in the role of Marcello, and young soprano Emilie Kealani, who will make her debut as Musetta.

Also joining the cast are Stefano de Peppo (Benoit/Alcindoro), Nan Wang (Colline), Justin Burgess (Schaunard), Zachary Rioux (Parpignol), Jonathan Patton (Sargeant) and Henry Benson (Prune Man).

The opera will be directed by E. Loren Meeker, who according to the festival’s website, “has garnered worldwide acclaim”

Abbassi is one of the most well-known Egyptian musicians and maestros. He began his career as a bassoon player to then move to conducting as well as composing his own music.

Abbassi was the maestro leading the grand event in 2021 of the Pharaohs Golden Parade which caught the international eye.
