The National Bank of Egypt’s (NBE) made a total of EGP 930million (US$ 121.8million) in donations in the last five years, according to NBE Chairman Hisham Okasha.
Of this amount, a total of EGP 210m went to developing slums and fighting poverty, Okasha added.
The NBE donated this amount to guarantee its social responsibility sector participation, which directly affects part of the needs of Egyptian citizens, including health, education, and economic needs. Okasha stated that fulfilling these needs also enables the citizen to live with the human dignity they deserve.
The bank agreed to donate EGP 150m to take part in the project of developing the Gheit El-Enab area in Alexandria.
The project’s cornerstone was established with Okasha’s participation, and that of his Deputy Chairman Mahmoud Montasser, military leaders, executive public leaders of the governorates, and a number of businessmen who are shareholders in the project, amongst others.
Developing the Gheit El-Enab area is part of the bank’s desire in supporting the state’s plan to develop the unplanned areas which most need planning.
