Netflix subscribers jump following password sharing crackdown

Daily U.S. sign-ups for Netflix have gone up in the days after the start of the streaming giant’s crackdown on password sharing on May 23, data from Antenna showed on Friday.

The company reported over 100,000 daily sign-ups on May 26 and May 27.

Netflix took action to limit the sharing of account passwords with friends and family members, as it estimated that over 100 million households had provided their log-in information to people outside their homes.

The updated rules allow U.S. subscribers to add a member outside of their homes for an extra $8 per month, Netflix has expanded its crackdown rules to 100 countries.

The increase in Netflix’s sign-ups has exceeded COVID-19 lockdown levels in 2020.
