The number of deaths from the coronavirus in New York rose slightly, Governor Andrew Cuomo said at a press conference on Saturday, with the state reporting 437 new deaths over the past 24 hours.
The death tally is up from 422 in the previous period announced on Friday.
At least 16,599 people in New York were killed due to the virus, the governor said, although that number doesn’t include what could be thousands of probable fatalities in the state.
“We are back to where we were 21 days ago … 21 days of hell,” Cuomo said.
About 1,100 new patients were hospitalized yesterday in New York, he added.
