Nissan Motor recalls more than 700,000 Rogue S and Rogue Sport S compact SUVs for having a malfunction, as the vehicles shut off accidentally while driving, CNN reported on Tuesday.
Nissan Rogue, modeled from 2016 through 2020, and Rogue Sport, modeled from 2017 through 2022 have jackknife-style keys, making the internal joint in the key weaken over time and the key accidentally fold.
Nissan is yet to reach a solution to the problem, once a solution is available, Nissan dealers will be providing it free of charge, according to documents by the firm with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“Owners with a key that will not remain in the extended “open” position should contact their local authorised Nissan dealers for diagnosis,” Nissan stated.
Nissan advised owners of the aforementioned models not to attach anything to the keys that might pull them down, and to insert them into the ignition in a direction that can make the key fold upward and not downward.
There has not been any reported deaths or injuries because of the malfunction, as the company will be alerting owners of the recall later in March, a Nissan spokesperson said.
