Nissan US workers accept early retirement offers
Nissan Motor confirmed that approximately six per cent of its US workforce has accepted voluntary early retirement packages. This move is part of the automaker’s broader plan to reduce global headcount by 9,000 employees.
As of March 2024, Nissan employed around 17,000 individuals in the US. The early retirement programme is expected to result in approximately 1,000 job losses by the end of the year.
Nissan’s decision to cut jobs and reduce manufacturing capacity comes in response to a significant decline in sales in China and North America, leading to a 70 per cent reduction in its annual profit outlook.
