No Delays In El-Sisi’s Inauguration: Presidential Aide

Interim President Adly Mansour is determined to allow Egypt’s president-elect, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, to start his presidential term as soon as the official results of this week’s elections are announced, Mansour’s legal advisor, Ali Awad, announced.

Awad, in a statement to Al-Ahram daily newspaper, denied rumours of the possibility of delaying the presidential inauguration until the parliamentary elections law is drafted.

Mansour won’t delay the auguration as a result of the draft law not being passed, Awad affirmed.

The draft law is currently being put to a national dialogue.

Egypt’s Presidential Election Commission (PEC) is yet to announce the official results of the poll that took place 26 to 28 May.

However, unofficial results, announced by judges presiding over polling stations nationwide, show that former military chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi won with an overwhelming majority.

El-Sisi garnered over 23 million votes, around 96 percent, while his sole contender, leftist Hamdeen Sabahi, got a mere 3.5 percent.

PEC will announce the official results early this coming week.
